Nowhere else in the country is hit as hard as Arizona when it comes to brutal summer weather. We’ve already seen almost as many 110 degree days this summer than we did throughout all of last year and it’s only going to get worse with most of July and August to come. The intense heat only amplifies the importance of taking care of yourself and promoting healthy for you and your friends and neighbors. Here are some of the most important steps you can take to make it a safe, healthy summer in Arizona:
- DRINK WATER- One of the most important parts of surviving the summer in Arizona is the simplest. Instead of going for a sugary soda, reach for a bottle of water to make sure you stay hydrated and replenish your body from all the sweat you’ll lose. That bottle of water could be the difference between getting through the day and fainting from dehydration.
- BE A GOOD LIFEGUARD- There’s almost nothing as enjoyable as going for a swim in your backyard pool during the summer, but don’t forget that pools can turn dangerous, for children especially, in an instant. Simple steps like putting up a fence around the pool or learning how to perform CPR could save someone’s life. We lose far too many children to preventable pool-related incidents every summer in Phoenix. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen in 2015.
- DON’T WORSHIP THE SUN- It seems like everyone wants to have a perfect tan today, but many times people forget what that brings down the road. Too much exposure to the sun can be the cause behind melanoma and could be a precursor to skin cancer. Even if you aren’t planning on being outside long, never leave your house without applying sunscreen
