Quick update on the Zika virus blog we ran two weeks ago. The Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) is now providing educational materials to prenatal care providers throughout our state regarding the Zika virus including the most current recommendations.
The materials include:
- Prenatal care provider recommendation letter,
- Zika fact sheet for prenatal care providers, and
- Zika virus testing algorithm.
Fortunately, Arizona has not had any cases of travel-associated or locally-acquired Zika infections to this point. However, as we mentioned previously, the mosquito that carries the disease does live in Arizona so we feel it is important to keep people updated with the latest information.
With spring break approaching – the Arizona Daily Sun recently ran a story focused on keeping spring breakers safe “if” their upcoming plans include travel to Zika affected areas.
In addition, Tucson.com spoke to a horticulture agent for the Pima County Cooperative Extension and the University of Arizona about best practices to avoid the Zika virus or other diseases spread by mosquitoes.
We will continue to update you with the latest information on this and other health related issues important to the people of our state. It is just one of the many ways we believe we can move the needle in our quest to one day make Arizona the Healthiest State in the Nation!
